There are many services that let you get real-time weather forecasts on your cell phone. The fastest of which
is to use SMS or text messaging. It's as simple as sending a quick message and getting a
response within seconds. Of course, you can also use web-based access if you're paying
for the service, but we've found that web-based access can be slow at times so we recommend sticking with SMS. The companies
providing weather information don't charge anything for the service, although carriers will stick you with a per use or plan
fee for using SMS or web-based access. The following is a list of sites that offer SMS and web-based access to weather
forecasts:

Yahoo offers two ways to access weather. First, like many other sites offering this service,
they offer weather forecasts through SMS. Yahoo offers easy to use shortcuts and a simple address. Try
sending the message "W 94104" to 92466 or "yahoo" on your phone's keypad. In addition, you can access weather through
Yahoo's mobile web product. As with all web-based access via the cell phone there are some phone and carrier restrictions.

Sounds like a broken record, but 4INFO does the same thing as Yahoo, offering current weather conditions
and forecasts through SMS and web-based access. Using the same shorthand described above, send a message to
44636 or "4INFO" on your phone's keypad.

Google offers free acces to weather using SMS. Like Yahoo, Google provides some easy shortcuts to minimize typing and has
an easy to remember adderss: 46645 or "googl" on your telephone keypad. You can try this out by sending the message:
"Weather 94104" or simply "W 94104" to get the current weather conditions and forecast for the 94104 zip code.

Again, Synfonic offers the same SMS weather reporting as the others but without the easy to remember phone number.
To reach Synfonic, you've got send your message to 16504307183. Another drawback is that the service is only available
to registered Synfonic users, which is free. On the plus side, the company lets you create a customize dictionary
through their website for frequently used shorthand. |
